New security upgrades to the U.S. refugee admissions program will help block suspected criminals from entering the United States from “high-risk” countries, the head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said on Monday. “We will be rolling out new security measures for applicants from high-risk countries which will seek to prevent the program from being exploited by terrorists, criminals, and fraudsters,” U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said at a public event in Washington.
