US Shutdown Likely To Spill Over 2019

An aide to Trump said that the US government could experience a partial shutdown because of issues regarding budget spending which could last till January 3, when the next Congress opens. The shutdown started on Friday at midnight following resistance from opposition Democrats to Trump’s demand for $5 billion for the border wall with Mexico. The acting chief of staff of Trump, Mick Mulvaney, suggested that Democrats were only expressing their indebtedness to the left-wing. A Democratic senator, Jeff Merkley, said that his party wouldn’t support any funding for the building of the border wall. The party had previously offered an amount of $1.3 billion for security across borders. Donald Trump attempted to defend his administration’s project via Twitter on Sunday. Mulvaney predicted that the shutdown is likely to extend beyond 28th and move into new Congress. In another interview, he said that Chuck Schumer, Senate Democratic leader, is yet to talk to him about a new offer from Republicans, leaving out specifications about the sum.
