On June 11, 1938, the Atlanta Housing Authority (AHA) was the first-ever public housing authority established in the U.S. when the City of Atlanta passed a resolution declaring the need for safe, affordable housing for families facing financial difficulty. Under Georgia law, we are commissioned to develop, acquire, lease and operate affordable housing for low-income people and families.
