Congress Faces Friday Deadline to Extend US Government Funding
USAGov | September 25, 2016
Time is running out for Congress to keep the U.S. government open and fully functioning. Federal spending authority expires at midnight Friday and, so far, Democrats and Republicans have been unable to agree on a temporary funding extension, much less yearlong appropriations for the new fiscal year that begins October 1. In what has become an annual Washington ritual, lawmakers are squabbling as a partial government shutdown looms. The immediate goal: a stopgap spending bill, or continuing resolution.
