Feds' Lost Spending Will Contribute to Shutdown's $3B in Permanent Economic Damage
The U.S. economy will suffer a permanent $3 billion hit as a result of the partial government shutdown, according to an estimate by the Congressional Budget Office, in large part due to lost economic activity by impacted federal employees. More immediate effects will be much more severe, with the economy seeing $11 billion in lost productivity in the fourth quarter of 2018 and the first quarter of 2019. Much of that will be recouped in the subsequent months of 2019, CBO found in its report, though some of the losses will never be recovered.

The federal government currently owns and manages roughly 640 million acres of land, known as federal lands. Unfortunately, these lands are typically restricted from mining and minerals exploration. In 2016, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management proposed withdrawing an additional 10 million acres based on an ill-informed recommendation from the Department of the Interior. Then, in December of 2016, 1.35 million more acres of federal lands were designated for national monuments. Frivolous federal land withdrawals significantly inhibit the mining industry and U.S. economy as a whole as these lands are significant sources of mineral wealth.

Qualcomm gets licence to sell 4G chips to Huawei

Qualcomm | November 17, 2020

The U.S. government has at long last backed off on Chinese cell phone producer, Huawei. The nation has permitted American chipset producer Qualcomm to sell 4G cell phone chips to Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. This is the primary exclusion made by the US government since the expanding pressures between the two nations. The American government had trained all chipset makers to quit sourcing items to the Chinese organization since Septemeber. The spokes person from Qualcomm did not specify the exact chip that they will be supplying to Huawei. However, they did confirm that it is related to mobile devices. Other than Qualcomm chipsets, Huawei has its own scope of chipsets which has been being used in many gadgets sold by the organization, particularly on mid-reach and spending contributions. The organization's capability to plan its own chips was additionally impeded in September by U.S. exchange limitations that obstructed its admittance to chip plan programming and creation devices. Industry investigators trust Huawei's store of chips bought before the boycott could run out ahead of schedule one year from now, devastating its cell phone business. Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon said the Qualcomm license would have a "limited impact" because it covers only 4G chips while consumers are shifting to newer 5G devices. Rasgon said it is still unclear whether U.S. officials will grant Qualcomm licenses for 5G smartphone chips. About Qualcomm Who is Qualcomm, and what do we do?
