Senator Supports Post-Shutdown Back Pay Bill

A Democratic senator is pushing for quick action on a bill that would grant federal employees back pay for the hours lost to furloughs as a result of the government shutdown. The Senate moved Monday to end debate on a three-week spending package to fund the government until Feb. 8, premised on Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s commitment to bring to the floor an immigration bill that addresses enrollees in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The House is expected to send the continuing resolution to President Trump shortly after the Senate approves the bill.
