THE TRUMP ADMIN IS SCRUBBING OBAMACARE FROM GOVERNMENT SITES

Wired | May 15, 2019

PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS never been coy about his desire to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. While that pledge has faced setbacks in Congress, his administration has managed to gut Obamacare by other means, like cutting financial support. The executive branch can also undermine the law in subtler ways. According to a new report, the Trump administration has been systematically wiping crucial information about the ACA from government websites over the past two years. Unlike changes to funding, these modifications often happen with little fanfare or government oversight, but they can still have a dramatic impact on Americans' access to health care resources. The report was published Wednesday by the Sunlight Foundation, an open government group whose Web Integrity Project monitors some 30,000 government pages for updates and alterations.

Greenhouse gas emission reductions from UK housing have stalled, and efforts to adapt the housing stock for higher temperatures, flooding and water scarcity are falling far behind the increase in risk from the changing climate. The quality, design and use of homes across the UK must be improved now to address the challenges of climate change. Doing so will also improve health, wellbeing and comfort, including for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and those living with chronic illnesses.

Government of Rio de Janeiro | March 09, 2022

Rio de Janeiro will gain a stock Exchange for the purchase and sale of carbon credits and sustainable assets related to energy, climate and forest. Governor Cláudio Castro signed, on Tuesday (August 03), in New York, a protocol of intentions with Nasdaq and Global Environmental Asset Platform (GEAP), in order to take the first steps towards the implementation of a trading platform. The agreement guarantees Rio the leadership in the green economy. This partnership will provide information exchange among the Government of Rio de Janeiro, Nasdaq and GEAP for the implementation of public policies to certify, issue and trade carbon credits. In the following 90 days, a working group will be created to discuss the proposed measures and a pilot experiment. After this evaluation time, a Brazilian subsidiary of Nasdaq will be installed in Rio de Janeiro. The Environmental Assets Exchange is expected to be up and running in the second half of the year. The Rio de Janeiro government team has been working on this protocol for eight months. Nasdaq will provide the technology and the state will offer the environmental assets. Rio is expected to reach a CO2 stock of 73 million tons, representing 25 billion BRL, and each ton can cost an average of US$ 5. The segment is seen as one of the economic recovery alternatives after the COVID-19 pandemic." Cláudio Castro,The Governor ofRio de Janeiro A pioneer in the sustainability theme, Nasdaq created Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE), a program in partnership with the United Nations (UN) that provides a global platform for exchanges to encourage sustainable investment with the collaboration of investors and companies. In 2018, the world's first regulated digital exchange for asset-based tokens (a digital security tool for validating and authenticating financial transactions) was launched, which is operated by Nasdaq Technologies. "Nasdaq is very interested in being part of this kind of initiative. It will be a challenge to participate in this creative project. We have a lot to do, but we are eager to begin this work together with the State of Rio," said Carlos Patiño, Associate Vice President of Nasdaq Technologies. The new market will result in job creation and it will attract national and international companies, besides making Rio de Janeiro a leader in the low carbon economy. The state of Rio de Janeiro has 31% of its area covered by natural forests, corresponding to 1.3 million hectares. The government has invested in actions aimed at the sustainable economy, such as Tomorrow's Forests and Atlantic Forest Connection. "Since July of last year, we have been working to identify the actions necessary for the state to achieve the title of 'carbon neutral'. The goal is to have the net emissions of greenhouse gases totally neutralized by the year 2045," said the Secretary of Environment and Sustainability, Thiago Pampolha.

Falcon Identity Threat Protection Is Now Available for U.S. Public Sector Organizations

CrowdStrike | June 03, 2022

CrowdStrike, a leader in cloud-delivered endpoint, cloud workload, identity, and data security, today announced that the Falcon Identity Threat Protection module for its GovCloud-1 environment is now generally available. Falcon Identity Threat Protection is now available to U.S. public sector enterprises that require FedRAMP Moderate or Impact Level 4 (IL-4) authorization. This covers federal agencies in the United States, state and local governments in the United States, and the Defense Industrial Base (DIB). In May 2021, the White House issued Executive Order (EO) 14028, which defined security best practices, including how the federal government should progress toward a Zero Trust Architecture to stay up with today's dynamic and increasingly complex cyber threat environment. CrowdStrike believes that identity protection and Zero Trust principles should be applied to hybrid and multi-cloud systems. Customers' on-premises and cloud settings, as well as other identity suppliers, require all-encompassing identity protection. A breach can occur if a section of the architecture or the authentication flow is not visible. Falcon Identity Threat Protection works with the most popular identity providers (IdPs), allowing clients to implement multi-factor authentication (MFA). Customers can use the same MFA for on-premises authentication processes using this integration, and those who desire can use several IdPs. If a compromised identity is found, Falcon Identity Threat Protection can stop it from authenticating and getting to more resources on-premises or in the cloud. According to the2022 CrowdStrike Global Threat Report, nearly 80% of cyberattacks leverage identity-based attacks to compromise legitimate credentials. We are committed to helping the U.S. public sector protect against identity-based threats. With GovCloud-1 support, Falcon Identity Threat Protection can enable U.S. public sector organizations to get visibility and control of their identity infrastructure and apply Zero Trust principles.” Shawn Henry, CrowdStrike chief security officer and president of CrowdStrike Services "As agencies adopt Zero Trust, they need to continuously verify user identity and device posture," said Katy Mann, VP of Federal at Okta. "Through our partnership with CrowdStrike, Falcon Identity Threat Protection examines authentication requests in real-time, sharing risk scores with Okta for access policy enforcement. That way, agencies are confident that only the right people with secure devices can access mission-critical resources. And users benefit from a simpler experience and seamless single sign-on across apps. Together, Okta and CrowdStrike are accelerating the transition to Zero Trust."
