Measuring America: State Government Tax Collections

Revenue from state government tax rose 6,1 percent between fiscal years 2012 and 201 3, the third year in a row there has been an increase, according to the Census Bureau’s Annual Survey of State Government Tax Collections. Collected each year since I 95 1, this survey produces statistics on tax collections from the 50 state governments, covering 25 tax classifications, falling into five broad categories including: property taxes, sales and gross receipts taxes, license taxes, income taxes, and other taxes. All data are based on a state’s fiscal year.
