Auto theft and vehicle break-in alert

October 5, 2016 - Vehicle break-ins and auto thefts are on the rise across Lexington, and investigators with the Lexington Police Department are urging citizens to protect their cars and valuables.
Over the past three months, Lexington Police received 262 reports of stolen vehicles, up from 166 during the same time frame last year. Of the 262 recent auto thefts, approximately 110 cases involved the suspect using a key to the vehicle.Lexington police also received 788 reports of larcenies from auto over the past three months. While that overall number is down compared to 2015 data, officers have seen a recent spike in reported incidents.
