How Governments Can Adapt - Making Digital Transformation a Reality

That’s what the Office of Management and Budget and its federal agency colleagues have to say about your federal grant budget in the uniform grant policy document, sometimes called the “Super Circular.” What they don’t say as clearly is how that budget should be prepared and supported, how it will be reviewed and approved by awarding agencies, and how it must be managed during post-award.

While the debate rages in Washington, D.C. as to what a federal data protection statute should look like, U.S. states have led the way advancing the privacy and security of the personal data of their respective residents. In fact, over the last 12 months, at least 10 states have promulgated such protections, and each has something unique to challenge data protection professionals.

Our cell phones have become our cameras, our calendars, our maps, our calculators, our flashlights – even our method of payment for goods and services. Now they’re increasingly becoming our IDs, as physical documents such as drivers licenses are replaced by digital identification. Mobile IDs are a convenience for the people who carry them. But they also help governments in a number of valuable ways, including fighting fraud, ensuring accessible service delivery for constituents, improving efficiencies and cutting red tape.

Phishing attacks are rising dramatically, particularly those aimed at state and local governments, with recent reports suggesting incidents have nearly doubled. Attacks have targeted a wide swath of the workforce—from revenue and tax officials to employees in elections and unemployment offices.
