Democrats push financial inclusion as 2020 election race heats up

Boosting access to the U.S. banking system is emerging as a prominent theme as Democrats tap discontent over income inequality ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Following the 2008 financial crisis, many banks pulled back from their poorest customers. The shift has had lasting costs for millions of Americans now struggling to access mainstream financial services such as checking accounts and credit cards. Ten years later, Democrats, driven by progressive firebrands like Senators Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, see financial inclusion as a draw for voters.

Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 marks 17 years since the inception of the award-winning telework program. The USPTO has made monumental strides in telework – from 18 employees’ teleworking in 1997 to 9,650 in 2014. Telework successfully addresses challenges in heavy workloads, reduces patent backlog, minimizes commutes, and recruits and retains a highly-skilled workforce. It’s a fixture in the USPTO strategic plan. It’s an equation for success and inspiration for others. In FY 2014, 11,441 positions were eligible to telework (up by 7 percent from FY 2013) and 9,432 employees were working from home at least one day a week, translating to 75 percent of the USPTO workforce. This is an increase of nearly 1,097 teleworking employees from FY 2013. In addition, between FY 2013 and FY 2014, the percent of positions eligible to telework increased from 90.7 percent to 91.0 percent (+747 eligible positions agency-wide).

DARPA Launches Crypto Project with Inca Digital

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded Inca Digital's government contracting division, Inca Digital Federal, a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract to research advanced methods for analyzing activity related to financial applications of distributed ledgers in a project called: "Mapping the Impact of Digital Financial Assets". The aim of the SBIR is to understand and visualize how digital assets implicate national security. "Digital asset markets hold amazing promise, but also contend with money laundering, market manipulation, and state actors that may pose risks to U.S. national security, Given the increasing prevalence of digital assets, the Department of Defense and other federal agencies need to have better tools to understand how digital assets operate and how to leverage their jurisdictional authority over digital asset markets globally." -Adam Zarazinski, CEO of Inca Digital. As a result of this SBIR, Inca Digital Federal will develop a first-of-its-kind cryptocurrency ecosystem mapping tool for analyzing cross-market crypto-financial data and risk. The data analytics from Inca Digital will allow both the United States government and commercial companies to: Perform cross-market, crypto-financial mapping and analysis Understand relationships between digital asset firms and non-digital asset entities Identify how cryptocurrency may affect traditional financial systems and vice-versa Provide insight into the use of blockchain-based technologies linked to money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions evasions across systems (e.g., fiat-to-exchange, exchange-to-blockchain, and cross-blockchain transactions) Better understand money flows in and out of blockchain systems Identify where recipients of cryptocurrency can exchange it for local fiat currency, or goods and services, globally Understand how cryptocurrencies are used in different U.S. government/Department of Defense areas of responsibility This research is being developed by funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). U.S. Public Sector Updates Security for New Cloud Reality

State and municipal governments in the U.S., many still burdened by legacy systems and processes, are working with service providers to secure new cloud-based IT architectures amid major technology transitions, according to a new research report published today by Information Services Group (ISG) (Nasdaq: III), a leading global technology research and advisory firm. The 2022 ISG Provider Lens™ Cybersecurity — Solutions and Services report for the U.S. Public Sector finds that governments and associated public organizations know they need to quickly overhaul both IT and cybersecurity to meet growing demand for remote work and online services to constituents.
