Government pays £33mln to settle lawsuit with Eurotunnel over no-deal Brexit ferry contracts

The agreement between the government and Eurotunnel will ensure the Channel Tunnel will continue to keep passengers and freight moving after Brexit. Eurotunnel has been awarded £33mln in settlement with the UK government after taking legal action over “secretive” contracts for extra ferry services to ensure imports in the event no-deal Brexit. The Department for Transport had contracted three suppliers to provide additional freight capacity on ferries for lorries in December to ensure supplies to the National Health Service and other vital imports should the UK leave the European Union without a deal on March 29.
