Minneapolis remembers former Mayor Al Hofstede

The City of Minneapolis is remembering its 41st mayor, Al Hofstede, who passed away Saturday, Sept. 3 at the age of 75. Hofstede served two mayoral terms in the 1970s. He was 34 when first elected in 1974, making him Minneapolis’ youngest mayor. His public service also included four years representing Ward 3 on the Minneapolis City Council, and serving as the second chair of the Metropolitan Council. More recently he was president of North State Advisors, a Minneapolis consulting firm. He was known as a passionate advocate for affordable housing and a skilled negotiator.
