Optiv Canada Awarded First Enterprise Contract Under Federal Government's Cybersecurity Procurement Vehicle

Optiv | August 22, 2022 | Read time : 02:49 min

Optiv Canada news
Optiv, the cyber advisory and solutions leader, today announced it has been awarded the first major enterprise contract under Shared Services Canada's (SSC) cybersecurity procurement vehicle (CSPV) for its network device authentication (NDA) solution, which aims to establish a collaborative environment to effectively manage device certificates across federal government IT infrastructure.

Today's workforces and their devices are more distributed than ever, leading to a rapidly expanding threat landscape. Enterprises and governments alike must be able to proactively and jointly respond to emerging cyber threats, while also providing timely and appropriate access to trusted devices.

The first of its kind, Optiv Canada's NDA solution is delivered in partnership with Venafi, the leader in securing machine identities, and Crypto4A, a next generation hybrid security platform, which manages the lifecycle of device keys for zero trust-based architectures. The combined offering allows Canada to move away from manual device management by leveraging automation to address the proliferation of interconnected devices.

"It's estimated there will be nearly 1.5 million devices connected to the Government of Canada's infrastructure at any one time within the next four years. A manual approach to network access is unsustainable and opens everyone up to operational and security risks, Our NDA project provides a new set of infrastructure-wide solutions for device authentication, allowing for automated provisioning and the capacity to adapt without expensive hardware changes."

-Optiv's Cheryl McGrath, area vice president and country general manager, Canada.

The realities of digital transformation mean that every organization, including governmental agencies, are facing unprecedented growth in the number of machines on their networks, said Kevin Bocek, vice president, security strategy and threat intelligence at Venafi. With this decision, the Canadian Federal Government is demonstrating their commitment to their vision of a strong machine identity management strategy which is essential to the security of the systems that underpin our digital world. This vision is not possible without a strong network device authentication program which is the cornerstone of identity and security.

"We thank both Optiv and Venafi for the opportunity to add value to the NDA solution. We believe new approaches to providing secure access, authentication and verification of machine identities are required for the opportunities and challenges of digital transformation in zero-trust environments."

-John Scott, Chair and CEO of Crypto4A.

With NDA, Canada is laying a secure foundation for zero trust, network access control, enhanced compliance and an improved user experience. Optiv and its partners are looking to deliver for the Government of Canada the same objective-driven outcomes it does for clients in any other vertical of business and IT operations.

NanoGraf Wins Contract from U.S. Government to Develop First Large-Volume Advanced Silicon Anode Manufacturing Facility in the U.S.

NanoGraf | December 01, 2022

NanoGraf, an advanced battery material company and enabler of the world’s most energy dense 18650 lithium-ion cell, today announced a contract award from the U.S. Government. The contract will fund the onshore manufacturing of high-performance silicon anode materials as the first large-volume silicon oxide manufacturing facility in the U.S. At peak production, NanoGraf will produce 35 T/Y, enough material to provide enhanced power for various battery applications. The U.S. faces unprecedented battery market demand and a highly problematic supply chain, resulting in an increased need for the onshoring of battery manufacturing facilities. In awarding NanoGraf this production contract, the U.S. Government is taking an important step towards a strong supply chain by scaling material production of the world’s most energy dense 3.8Ah 18650 cylindrical lithium-ion cell, at 800 watt-hours per liter (Wh/L), which was announced in 2021. “NanoGraf’s twin mission is to continually improve battery performance and to be a great partner for our customers across sectors, including government, automotive, and consumer electronics, This contract ensures continued improvements in battery performance and a more reliable supply chain as we bring our silicon-anode technology to scale.” -Connor Hund, Chief Operating Officer. The 18-month contract complements NanoGraf’s existing domestic material production strategy and the company’s additional plans to support the electric vehicle market by 2024. NanoGraf will produce 35 tons of silicon anode material per year as the company scales to 1,000 tons per year to support the EV market. With NanoGraf’s proprietary silicon oxide material design, material prices will be on par with the cost of lower-performance graphite anodes. The contract announcement comes on the heels of NanoGraf’s setting the new industry benchmark for the most energy dense lithium-ion 18650 battery. The next-generation cell will increase the energy density of batteries by over 20%, considerably lightening the load for users. Illinois is poised to become a leader in the electric vehicle revolution, thanks to leaders in our state like NanoGraf. With its groundbreaking research and production of light-weight, energy dense batteries, NanoGraf is helping define the next generation of consumer and military vehicles, said Senator Dick Durbin. I’m pleased to see the Department of Defense recognize the value in supporting NanoGraf’s mission, which will improve our military readiness and have immeasurable applications across industry. About NanoGraf: NanoGraf is an advanced battery material company whose patented silicon-anode technology enables longer-lasting, higher-energy, and higher-power lithium-ion batteries. NanoGraf works with more than 50 companies, including some of the world’s leading consumer electronics, household appliance, and power tool brands, and over 12 strategic partners in electric mobility (from startups to Fortune 100s). NanoGraf is a spinout of Northwestern University and Argonne National Laboratory.
