SCOTT KENT: State shows little respect for home rule

Last Tuesday, Flagler County Attorney Al Hadeed testified before the Florida House Careers and Competition subcommittee in opposition to a bill sponsored by Mike LaRosa, R-St. Cloud, that would strip local governments of the power to regulate short-term vacation rental properties. LaRosa, a member of the committee, responded by grilling Hadeed on the merits of Flagler’s ordinances it had enacted to crack down on troublesome rentals. Hadeed gave detailed explanations to justify the county’s actions.
