US government shutdown: What does it mean and how can Trump end the conflict?

A partial shutdown of the US government is likely to drag on over the Christmas holiday after the Senate failed to break an impasse over Donald Trump’s demand for more funding to build a wall on the border with Mexico. With no deal in sight, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell sent senators home until Tuesday, all but guaranteeing the shutdown would last until then.
