The Aftermath of Reversing California's Severe Three-Strikes Law

In 1994, California voters passed “Three Strikes,” one of the harshest sentencing laws in U.S. history. People who had been convicted of prior crimes could receive life in prison for nonviolent offenses, like possession of marijuana. In 2012, California Proposition 36 reformed this law, and thousands of prisoners became eligible for reentry overnight. In these first seven minutes of the documentary, The Return, we hear Kaylica Anderson’s testimony: her father is currently incarcerated and she hasn’t seen him in years, but he is now qualified for release.
