On January 14, 2019, President Trump signed the OPEN Government Data Act into law as part of Pubic Law 115-445. The OPEN Government Data Act creates a presumption that all federal information should be standardized in machine-readable formats and freely-available for public access. The new law also requires every agency to appoint a chief data officer and develop a comprehensive inventory of all its data sets, not just the public ones.
