2014 Energy Benchmarking Report

A central strategy for meeting the City of Minneapolis climate action goals is to drive high building performance in the commercial market through energy and water benchmarking and disclosure. This third annual report summarizes the data collection activities, benchmarking results, and analysis for the city’s largest public and private commercial buildings based on building data submissions through August 31, 2015. Commercial and industrial energy use represents 47% of greenhouse gas emissions in Minneapolis. Energy use is a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions, and also the largest controllable operational cost in buildings. The crucial first step in addressing and managing energy use is understanding building energy performance. In 2013, Minneapolis adopted the commercial building benchmarking and disclosure policy (ordinance 47.190) requiring public buildings greater than 25,000 square feet, and private commercial buildings 50,000 square feet and above, to report energy and water performance data to the City annually via the Environmental Pollution Agency’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager. This policy was among a set of strategies laid out in the Minneapolis Climate Action Plan for improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

GOVERNMENT AGENCIES DESERVE A BETTER WAY TO PENTEST

whitePaper | June 10, 2022

The public sector is feeling the squeeze between an increase in cyber attacks and a lack of increased resources to keep up. In a recent survey conducted on behalf of SolarWinds, public sector respondents reported increased concern over ransomware, malware and phishing the most over the previous year, but time to detection and resolution had not improved for the majority.1 To bolster application security, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued a memorandum directing agencies to identify critical software and implement the latest protections outlined by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Another OMB memorandum presented a federal zero trust architecture (ZTA) strategy that requires agencies to meet specific cybersecurity standards and objectives by the end of FY2024.

The Impact of the Trump Labor Market on Historically Disadvantaged Americans

whitePaper | December 19, 2019

The U.S. labor market is the strongest it has been in the last half century, as shown by economic data across various metrics. This is partly attributable to President Trump’s progrowth economic policies, the results of which are disproportionately benefiting Americans who were previously left behind. The Administration’s policies are boosting labor demand and lowering structural barriers to entering the labor market. This report provides evidence that this labor market has contributed to reduced inequality through an economic boom that is greatly benefiting historically disadvantaged groups. These groups are becoming more and more self-reliant through their economic activity, rather than remaining inactive in the labor market to qualify for means-tested government programs.
