“Our country will, at some point, face a major cyber event that will have a serious effect on our lives, our economy and the everyday functioning of our society.” This grave warning came from the former United States Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano back in 2013. Fortunately, this has not yet come true. Nevertheless, few will dispute that a large-scale cyber attack on a federal, state or local government’s critical infrastructure would have significant, long-term impacts on society. Never before has there been such an urgent need to act – and not just at the federal level.
