US tariffs on steel and aluminum imports would hit "international business trade hard", said the German government on Friday. German Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesperson Steffen Seibert said the tariffs would not solve issues of global overcapacity of both steel and aluminum with unilateral measures. US President Donald Trump risks sparking a trade war with his closest allies if he goes ahead with plans to impose the steep tariffs.
