US Senators launch effort to protect US elections

Leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee are releasing recommendations on efforts they say need to be made to protect U.S. elections in response to Russia's election meddling during the 2016 presidential campaign. The recommendations from Republican Chairman Richard Burr of North Carolina and Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the panel, largely reiterate concerns previously expressed by senators, cybersecurity experts and state and local election officials. The committee's chairman said despite their concerns they are confident in "state and local governments" being able to thwart any election interference attempts.
