2018 Government Affairs Outlook

The need to reauthorize farm programs, proposed changes to federal food assistance and international trade are likely to top Washington’s agriculture agenda in 2018. The upcoming farm bill will be front and center this year as the House and Senate Agriculture committees and the Department of Agriculture sought to revamp many programs last updated in the 2014 reauthorization. “I think the 2018 bill is going to be more evolutionary“ from the 2014 renewal “than revolutionary,” Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue told Bloomberg Government in a December interview, because “there are no major changes to payment schemes that need to be made and there’s marginal tweaking on a lot of the issues.”
