Judge issues temporary restraining order on Trump asylum policy
A federal judge has temporarily halted a Trump administration policy to bar asylum seekers entry into the United States unless they appear at certain physical entry points on the southern border. “The rule barring asylum for immigrants who enter the country outside a port of entry irreconcilably conflicts with the [Immigration and Naturalization Act] and the expressed intent of Congress. Whatever the scope of the President’s authority, he may not rewrite the immigration laws to impose a condition that Congress has expressly forbidden,” said Judge Jon S. Tigar of the United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
