Cuomo to NY House Democrats: Fight for SALT deduction, Gateway Tunnel funding
As Democrats prepare to take control of the House of Representatives in January, Gov. Andrew Cuomo hopes the New York delegation will prioritize two issues important to the state. In a letter to incumbents and four representatives-elect released Monday, Cuomo urged the New York Democratic members to advocate for the restoration of the state and local tax deduction and federal funding for the Gateway Tunnel project. Cuomo has been one of the most vocal critics of the federal tax law the GOP-led Congress passed and President Donald Trump signed in December 2017. The measure placed a $10,000 cap on state and local tax deductions. Before the change, there was no limit on how much a taxpayer could deduct.
