PRESERVING AND MODERNIZING NAFTA A FREE TRADE AGREEMENT FOR A NEW GENERATION

After more than twenty-four years, the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is uncertain. President Donald Trump has proposed to renegotiate or withdraw from the historic trade agreement, labeling it as one of the worst trade deals in American history. Although we believe NAFTA has been largely beneficial to the United States and should be maintained, this presents a valuable opportunity to embolden the gains NAFTA has provided, while modernizing the agreement to reflect developments in the 21st century.
