Congress Sends Trump a Bill Promoting Evidence-Based Policymaking
In one of its last acts affecting the education sphere, the outgoing 115th Congress approved a bill designed to promote the better use of federal data, research, and evaluations when the policy is being made. On Dec. 21, federal lawmakers sent the Foundations for Evidenced-Based Policymaking Act of 2017 to President Donald Trump. The legislation would require each federal agency to set up a chief data officer, who would be responsible for managing the agency's data assets and promoting how best to use them. It would also require federal agencies to look at how to enhance data privacy, including when personally identifiable information is involved.
