City and County of Denver Mayor’s 2014 Budget

For the first time in five years – thanks to voter approval of Measure 2A, a recovering economy and responsible fiscal management – the City and County of Denver is not facing a budget shortfall in 2014. We are emerging from a long economic downturn as a vibrant, innovative city that is growing its economic base, revitalizing its neighborhoods and making intentional investments for the future. Over the past 12 months, Denver’s economy has added 15,000 new jobs and 1,000 new businesses. Denver workers are returning to the labor market and taking advantage of new opportunities. Real estate values are up and foreclosures are down, making Denver one of the top markets in the country. And, incomes are rising, giving families and businesses opportunities to save and invest. With this positive economic outlook, my 2014 budget proposal calls for the ongoing restoration of essential services that were lost during the recession as well as strategic investments in the safety net, public safety, neighborhood economic development, housing and technology. We will continue to deliver a smart, world-class city where everyone matters by expanding opportunities for all of Denver’s children, bringing new jobs into our city, connecting Denver’s economy with the rest of the world, keeping neighborhoods safe, and making intentional public investments that drive economic growth. Through prudent stewardship of taxpayer dollars, this budget reflects my unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality services at the lowest possible cost.

That is why Google Cloud has taken steps to develop industry-leading product capabilities that enhance the control that our customers have over their data, and that give customers visibility into when and how their data is accessed. We think it is important to be clear at the outset about where we stand: our customers own their data and have the right to control access to it. Like other technology and communication companies, Google receives requests from governments and courts around the world for customer information, including requests for Google Cloud customer information. Google Cloud has developed a transparent, fair, and thorough process that meets international best practices when it comes to data access requests from law enforcement agencies and governments. Google provides a response on a case-by-case basis, taking into account different circumstances and informed by legal requirements, customer agreements, and privacy policies. We are committed to protecting privacy while also complying with applicable laws.
